How To Grow Upنموونە
How do we grow up? Let’s look at three ways.
We talked yesterday about why maturity matters so much and how growing up is a gift—because the version of you today should be way different from the version of you as a toddler or the version of you tomorrow.
Today, let’s look at how we grow up. In 1 Corinthians 13:11, we see that we are supposed to put away childish things. So what does that mean for us? Just as we’ve traded baby bottles for plates and forks, we’ve got some habits in our lives that need a maturity makeover.
Here are three simple ways we can grow up by leaving our childish ways behind:
1. Set your goals.
2. Mind your mouth.
3. Read the room.
What does that mean? Let’s take them one step at a time. Today, we’ll talk about setting our goals. Goal-setting is a huge part of maturity because if we don’t know where we’re going, we’ll end up somewhere we don’t want to be. Goals are making a plan for your future self. It’s filling in the gaps between where you are now and where you want to be someday.
So, if you want to grow up wisely, you’ve got to make wise goals. And that means making realistic goals—because goals shouldn’t be things that can’t actually happen like marrying your favorite YouTube star. Instead, they should be smart goals—goals you can actually do that will lead you to be a better you.
And remember—while it’s great to make goals that help you, the best goals also lead you closer to Jesus. In Philippians 3, we see that Paul, who wrote a lot of the New Testament in the Bible, writes about pressing on toward a goal of knowing Christ more.
So think about goals you can make. Some of them can help you with school or with your future. Some of them can help you grow closer to God. And some of them could help you help the people in your life.
Check out today’s video about SMART goals, and take some time to make some of these for yourself. Think about what childish things you need to put away, and ask God to show you how you can make goals that honor Him.
