Wild Life—Start Really Livingنموونە
God, How Do I Do This?
Think of the last time you were lost on a hike. Maybe you wandered until you saw something familiar or ran into some guide or sign to follow. Sometimes when you’re in life’s wilderness, it’s even harder to find your way. I know this.
After quitting a well-paying sales gig to pursue my music career all while bringing a beautiful baby girl into the world, I felt lost. Was God really guiding me? Did I really see those signs? Was I just making some really awful choices?
What we can sometimes fail to realize is that there is a compass, a GPS, and a guide to get to know. His love for us is recorded. He put His Son’s life on display for us to see. His words are written down, and He can empower us by His Holy Spirit.
So, how do we really know God?
There are some basics. Talk with Him. Read His Word. Listen to Him. But, the point isn’t to figure out the perfect method or some three-step plan for knowing God. It’s a relationship. Reach out to Him. It can literally start as simply as saying, “God, how do I do this? Can You help me?”
At some point, usually on the way to dropping the babies off at daycare, I’ll simply say to God, “Help me do something dope for You today!”
Sometimes He’ll guide me to encourage someone while I’m playing ball at the gym. I’ve even felt God nudge me to share Him with my server at my favorite breakfast spot. It’s actually pretty cool to know Him this way.
Your relationship with Him will look different from mine, and it should. God is not surprised that we all connect with Him a little bit differently. He’s the one who made us uniquely.
Also, as you find your way with God, just like with anything else that matters, practice it daily.
