DAY 1 OF 5

Focus on What You Have

We all know those people who go through life being thankful for every small blessing that comes their way. “It is always possible to be thankful for what we receive, rather than complain about what we don’t have. One of the two becomes a habit,” Albert Einstein said. And he is well worth heeding.

Cast your mind back to your thoughts and conversations of the past week. Did they revolve around the reasons why you should be a thankful woman, or did you just complain about the many things with which you were dissatisfied?

Alternatively, did you express gratitude every day for your loved ones, your wonder at the rainbow colors of a soap bubble, a velvet-red rose from your garden or the cheeky little bird that comes to collect his piece of cheese in your kitchen?

There are so many beautiful and lovely things you can take joy in every day and for which you can thank God, and there are always more of these than the negative things that get you down. Blessings work like this: The more you focus on them, the more they multiply around you. Exchange your complaints for songs of praise for the daily blessings in your life.

Let’s close off with an anonymous prayer of thankfulness that we can pray together:

Prayer:

Thank You, dear Father, for times of relaxation: time to read a good book, go to the movies, listen to music, play with the cat, take the dog for a walk, visit our friends, have a chat with the neighbors, water the flowers, and breathe in the aroma of wet soil after the first rains. And thank You, Lord, for quiet times with You. Amen.
