HIGHER
We love to rank things, don’t we? Sports figures, songs on the radio, celebrities… The list goes on and on. The Internet is full of lists, because we can’t get enough of them. But things get a bit more serious when we start to rank what’s most important to us.
God, our spouse, our kids, our church, our ministry, our jobs all end up on the list, but not always in that order. Often, unintentionally, we mis-rank and mis-value the most important pieces of our lives. We put everything else above God — even good things.
My love for God should come before my love for my wife and my love for my kids. My love for God should come before ministry — even when I’m doing His work. In fact, my love as a husband and father and my work in ministry should simply be an overflow of my love for the Father. Yet, I’m guilty of putting so many things other than God at the top of my list.
But here’s the reality — we are always at the top of God’s list. He always ranks us at No. 1. And our ranking is never based on ability or talent or even effort. Need an example? Look no further than the Prodigal Son. He abandons his family and squanders his fortune, only to come back home, broke and defeated. He doubts his father will take him back.
You know how the story ends.
The son comes home, and the father doesn’t even wait for him to get to the front door. He meets him in the driveway, breaks out his best robe and throws a party, welcoming his son home in colorful, loving fashion. How’s that for a twist ending?
Yet, this is what God does for us, His children. He elevates and celebrates us even when we don’t deserve it. He lifts us up when our spirits are down, because He doesn’t want us to stay in a pit of despair. He carries us higher, so that we can be the best versions of ourselves.
So, shouldn’t our natural response be to lift Him higher?

About this Plan
Our God is the God of the impossible! He is always at work, looking for opportunities to perform miracles. I’ve found this to be true in my own life, so I wrote some songs about God doing the impossible. This devotional series centers around seven songs from my album, God of the Impossible . I hope you walk away from this devo series refreshed and expectant, trusting in the unwavering faithfulness of God. Believing the impossible - Lincoln Brewster
