A Moment With Godنموونە
GOD, OUR REFUGE
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
How do we describe our world today? Problems. Poverty. Pain. Prosperity.
A refuge is a safe place. When the Bible describes God as our refuge, it is saying that God is our safe place when we need protection from something.
Knowing God as our refuge enables us to trust Him more freely. We need not fear situations or people who threaten our well-being, whether in a physical or spiritual sense. There is no situation we will ever face that is out of God’s control, so the best place to be, always, is right with Him. “The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).
A question that arises is “how do I make God my refuge?”
The Psalmist portrays to us man's condition, God's reaction, God's provision and God's invitation.
Man's Condition v1 - 3
- Restlessness of man – why do the nations conspire?
- Emptiness in man – peoples plot in vain
- Self-centeredness of man
- Godlessness of man – God is out of their lives
- Defiance of man – burst bonds asunder. Why should we come under the moral authority of God? Let us do things on our own.
God's Reaction v4
- He laughs at the foolishness of man who comes together to defy God who is in total control.
- He ridicules.
- He is angry.
When God looks at what is happening in our nations today, the crave for power, the defiance, the godlessness and the emptiness, he cannot help but laugh.
God's Provision
I have set my anointed, a Messianic prophecy. The nations are His. The earth belongs to God and He reigns.
When we look around, we get discouraged. But we need to remember that God reigns. He is in control.
God's Invitation v10-12
- Serve Him with fear and trembling and reverence.
- Submit to Him with joy in your heart.
- Seek refuge in Him.
Let us be wise and be warned. We have no excuse that we did not know about it.
Let us not live a reckless, self-centered, godless and defiant life. Let us submit to Him and take refuge in Him. The nations belong to Him. He is our Sovereign Lord. Can we surrender ourselves to Him? We are secure in Him.
Those who sought refuge in God were protected from the storms of all kinds. He is the only one who is able to defend us from all odds. Let us run to Him and dwell in His presence.
He rules and He reigns. Blessed are those who take refuge in Him.
