Sharing Your ‘Nearly Nothing’

This week, we have looked at various stories in the Bible about times when people were asked to give the last of their ‘nearly nothing’ and how God used that. God could have helped the first two widows in many ways, but he chose to use their little portion of oil. The ‘nearly nothing‘ they had left.

Their ‘nearly nothing’ became ‘life-changing’ in God’s hands.

God can bless ‘nearly nothing’ so that it becomes a big blessing and a big something.

We have much more than a little portion of oil in our lives, so imagine what He can do with us! God can take our spiritual and material things and multiply them.

Maybe we need to borrow pots from others and have God fill our needs. Or maybe we can fill so many of our pots that we can return them full to others and share what we have been blessed with.

The widows with the oil, the widow who gave her last coins, and Peter and John who gave what they did have were all an example of how we can still give and receive even though at the beginning it looked impossible. We often end up with much more than what we dreamed of when we ask God to be a part of our lives.

Suddenly the idea of GIVING our ‘nearly nothing’ translates to SHARING our ‘nearly nothing’.

Giving is to lose something but sharing is to still have something. That is why we don’t give our faith to others. We SHARE our faith with others. Is there someone who you can share your faith with today?

As we end this week together, let’s take time to pray to be shown who we can share our faith with.

Dear Generous Father,

Thank you for all the things you have given me in life. Sometimes it feels like I am running out of energy, time, resources, and capacity. During these times, help me to be more aware of how you are able to expand and multiply my ‘nearly nothing’ so that it can become so much more. Help me to see beyond my need and that you will provide for me no matter what. Lord, I want to be generous to share what I have, even though it may not seem like much. I want to be aware of the needs of the people around me and share your love with them. Open my eyes to see others, to see you working in my life, and to see how greatly you bless me.

Thank you, Jesus.

Amen
