Fruitfulness
God promises to provide water—a symbol of his grace and his blessing and his Holy Spirit—in the barren places in our lives and in the valleys of pain and loss that we can all go through (Isaiah 41:17-18). He’s promised us springs and pools of water that we might be refreshed in those difficult places. He’s saying, “I will sustain you, bless you, bring you peace and joy, in the driest times in your life.”
Why does the Lord do all these things? He does it so there will be fruitfulness. He says, “I will put the cedar and the acacia in the desert, the myrtle and the olive. I will set junipers in the wasteland, the fir, and the cypress together….” The Lord names all these different kinds of trees growing where they are not supposed to grow. You don’t usually see beautiful trees in the wasteland, just as one doesn’t expect to see fruit in someone going through a dry period in their lives. But God says, “I’ll make you fruitful where you should be collapsing, wherein the natural you wouldn’t know what to do.”
Can you believe God for all that he wants to do in your life, even amid the difficult circumstances in which you may find yourself today? Let’s not miss out on what the Holy Spirit offers in the most challenging times of our lives.
