A letter from the apostle Peter

The New Testament contains many letters. Most of them are written by the apostle Paul. But other apostles wrote some, too. Over the next three weeks, we will have a look at the first letter of the apostle Peter.

Although letters are generally read from beginning to end, we start with the last few verses. Here Peter explains his goal of writing: he wants to exhort his readers and to teach them about the true grace of God in which they should stand firm.

This message was helpful for Peter’s readers, since they were facing hard times. Their faith in Jesus made daily life difficult; they were being rejected and even persecuted by their fellow citizens. Peter exhorts them to “stand firm” in God’s grace.

Maybe you are in a similar situation, facing difficult and uncertain times. Maybe this has to do with the political situation in your country, or with the COVID-19 pandemic, or with persecution for your faith in Jesus Christ. Whatever your situation is, Peter’s exhortation applies to us all: Stand firm in the true grace of God! In the rest of his letter, Peter gives valuable advice on how to do this in our daily lives. Do read with us to profit from his teachings!
