What About The Future?

What do you think about when you think about the future?

For Joshua, he had to be wondering what would happen to Israel now that Moses was gone, would he be able to cut it as the new leader? Would they make it to the land God promised them?

You may think about what job you might have, where you want to go to school after you graduate, or what your family will be like in the future. Or maybe the things you think about are more like this: Will grandma make it to next year? Are mom and dad going to get a divorce? Will my brother ever get better? Am I going to like my new coach? Did I study enough for the test?

Thinking about the future can be fun, but it can also be scary. Why? Because it’s ultimately out of our control. We have an idea of what we would like the future to look like, but there’s always some uncertainty. We may have a rough idea of what’s going to happen tomorrow, but we do not and cannot know what the future will look like.

While you don’t know your tomorrow, God does.

Think about the words that God spoke to Joshua as he faced the unknown: “be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Not only does God know your tomorrow, but He reminds us that no matter what the future holds, He is with you. God is with you, He is for you, and He is walking through it alongside you.

What are you worried about right now that you need to give to God?
