A Safe Cage
Have you ever seen a bird in a cage with a cat sitting outside watching the bird? If you haven’t seen it in real life, you many have seen it in a number of cartoons or shows. If there were no cage, the bird would be really afraid, but the bird knows that it is safe inside its cage.
We can feel as strong and sure as that little bird in the cage because we have the best protection of all—our Heavenly Father. That cat might be sitting outside the cage waiting to pounce, but we can trust that God is faithful, and he is taking good care of us.
Prayer: God, when we are afraid, help us to know that you can erase all our fears. When we feel like bad things are trying to get to us, help us feel safe and secure in your cage of protection, knowing you care for us and you are watching over us.
Activity: Put a toy under an upside-down drinking glass on the table. Take a small rubber ball and roll it toward the toy. Do you think the toy needs to be worried about the ball hitting it when the toy is under the glass? Now take the glass away and roll the ball toward the toy. Is it possible to knock the toy over when it’s not protected by the glass? How is this like the lesson we read earlier?
Did you know...
Orangutan mothers are very protective of their young. They never put their babies down and often nurse them through the first six or seven years of life. They spend a large amount of time high up in the trees building new nests every day. It would be pretty difficult for a predator to get to that baby orangutan when it’s holding onto its mother.
