Trusting and Believing: Devotions From Time of Grace

DAY 18 OF 34

What Has God Done for Me?
He gives you himself

Are you one of those people who hears the stories of the amazing person and work of Jesus Christ, who marvels at his love and victories, but fears that all those good things must be for somebody else? Do you have trouble believing and trusting that the great benefits of salvation in Christ could really apply to you? I mean you personally?

It is for just such fears that the Lord sets a table and invites you. Come to his meal! People don’t eat with enemies; they eat with friends. Jesus is your friend now. In fact, at his feast he is both host and the main course. In his Holy Supper, you encounter Christ Jesus, Lord of all, in an intensely personal way. As you receive his true body and blood, he is bonded to you and you to him--personally! Yes, you! Little, sinful, unworthy you!

Here is his promise, the gift of Christ himself: “Is not the cup of thanksgiving . . . a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?” (1 Corinthians 10:16). There can be but one conclusion: “Jesus, you must mean me too--me personally!”
