Trusting and Believing: Devotions From Time of Grace

DAY 17 OF 34

What Has God Done for Me?
He has changed the rules

Everybody knows the rules of what the legal system is supposed to do: acquit the innocent and convict the guilty. Convicting the innocent is called a miscarriage of justice, and acquitting the guilty is called corruption. Even Judge Wapner and Judge Judy know that.

You and I and every other person on earth are hurtling toward a courtroom where we will have to give an account for all the years of our existence. The guilt you so often feel in your heart is a spiritual Geiger counter of the radiation of the sin that is there. By rights you should be terrified of that coming encounter.

But Jesus Christ changed the rules. St. Paul has good news for you: “God made him who had no sin [Jesus] to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). God wants you with him in heaven so badly that he punished the innocent One so that the guilty (that’s you and me) could go free.
