Shine Like Stars: Devotions From Time of Graceনমুনা
Introduction
It cost you absolutely nothing to become a Christian.
It was terribly expensive for Christ Jesus, however. He worked hard to obey God's every law and commandment, the same ones that you have so often broken. He offered his life to physical abuse and crucifixion as a way of bearing the guilt and punishment that you had coming.
That forgiveness, that freedom from guilt, that verdict of not guilty, that approval from God the righteous Judge, is given to you for free. Really.
Nobody ever becomes a believer in Christ by his or her performance. We are Christians because God chose us from all eternity, decided to love us in spite of the evil within us, and sent his Son to live, die, and rise again for our forgiveness. We are Christians because we heard the Word, were washed in Baptism, believe the promises, and are sustained through the Supper. We now belong to God!
But here the changes begin: the same Lord who accepted you unconditionally now refuses to settle for your old sinful style any longer. He passionately desires to use your remaining time on this earth to transform you, to make your mind and emotions and deeds more like his, and to make you useful for his agenda. The purpose of this little booklet is nothing less than to help you make those changes in your behavior and life so that you shine like stars.
