DAY 2 OF 6

2nd Day

Why do we need a Saviour? And what did He save us from?

Right at the beginning of time when God walked with Adam and Eve, there were two very important trees in the garden. God called them the Tree of Life and the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. God placed those trees there to test man’s heart toward God. God wanted to see if Adam would obey His instructions by not eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. As we can see in Genesis chapter 3, Adam and Eve disobeyed God and there were consequences to their choices. There will always be consequences for the choices that we make. There will always be a harvest for the seeds that we sow.

The consequence of their disobedience was separation from the Tree of Life and they were expelled from the Garden of Eden. God told Adam that the ground would bear thorns and thistles because of his disobedience. Please take note that the fruit that Adam ate might have been delightful at the moment, but the consequences were far less delightful than the fruit that he ate. We can see that the consequences we bear from our choices will always be far less delightful than the initial choice that we made. The fruit will always be more appealing than the thorns and thistles.

The disobedience of Adam and Eve brought forth a curse. The curse still affects the world we live in today. The curse that came was sin and disobedience. So, God in the Old Testament gave the nation of Israel a law and some commandments. The purpose of the law was so that the people could see their sin and their desperate need for a Saviour. Without the law, it was difficult for the people to realize where they were wrong and how to fix their wrongdoings.

The law reveals that there should be a sacrifice and a shedding of blood in order to be forgiven from the sins. That is what Jesus meant in Matthew 5:17 when He said He came to fulfil the law. So, in essence, Jesus was saying “Listen guys, the blood that you are using for your forgiveness rituals is not sufficient. I carry a type of Blood that will not only grant you eternal forgiveness but will also wash you clean so that you would appear like you have never sinned before”. And in Jesus' death on the cross, He accomplished exactly that. He paid for our eternal forgiveness and the cleansing of our sins. Jesus accomplished to take the curse of sin upon Himself so that we can become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

About this Plan

King of Thorns

There are so many things that are part of the Christian life, but one of the main subjects of discussion is the reality of righteousness and freedom from sin. In this plan, we will discover what Jesus accomplished on the cross for us. How that can change our lives so we are not only forgiven of our sins but free from the things that once held us captive.
