Learning to De-Escalateনমুনা

In Traffic
Road rage and traffic altercations are common but avoidable with de-escalation. Growing up in Rio and São Paulo, I experienced chaotic traffic that makes Los Angeles or New York seem tame.
I used to get impatient, cursing and yelling, which ruined my mood and annoyed passengers. Over time, I realized this behavior only harmed me and those around me.
Now, I aim to be on time, listen to Christian music or podcasts, and focus on blessings like air conditioning, good company, or peaceful moments with my family. My drives with my kids to college are now some of the best parts of my day.
James 1:2-4 reminds us:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
Jesus teaches us that patience under stress is an act of faith.
De-escalation is a reflection of God’s love. It’s not easy, but it’s freeing, transformative, and ultimately brings peace—to others and to ourselves.
