SHE DROPPED HER PLANS TO COME TO MY AID

"If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” I John 3:17-18

My neighbor was living out the actions called for in scripture. She dropped her plans to come to my aid, not only staying with me in the Emergency Room but called my daughter who lived in another state.

It is essential to know that my daughter was on vacation. Rarely does she and her husband get that alone time together that they were so looking forward to, but agape love prompted her actions. My daughter dropped her plans to come to my aid. She too was living out the actions called for as written in scripture.

Although this devotional involves my friends and children, they were the ‘neighbors’ that Jesus taught about. You might be thinking, ‘This is what family does!’ Yes, that is what families should do, but we know that not every family acts like a good neighbor in the real world.

“Let no one seek his good, but the good of his neighbor.” I Corinthians 10:24

We live in a world with a ‘me’ mentality and tend not to put even loved ones above themselves. So, as individuals, we need to analyze whether we are being that good neighbor. Are we being that community that someone else needs?

Prayer: Help us Lord to understand the value of community and how far-reaching the community is. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
