Who Is Your Community?

DAY 2 OF 6

NEIGHBORS IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM

“You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,”and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." Romans 13:9-10

We can learn valuable lessons on how God desires us to live out this commandment. It was through this physical experience that I had a spiritual awakening.

I quickly began to realize that every emergency room attendant was a neighbor! No, not a neighbor who lived next door, like my dear friend but one who was attending to me. I knew nothing about their faith or even if they believed in the God I believe in, yet I saw them as loving individuals who truly cared about my well-being!

They sensed my apprehensions and concerns and kept reassuring and encouraging me through every test. They were showing love through gentleness and through the words and attitudes that were being expressed.

Loving our neighbor as oneself is full of power. If we genuinely love our neighbors (other souls) in the way we desire to be treated, scripture tells us that these other commandments are summed up in that love.

Truly loving as God loves involves faithfulness, commitment, and an act of the will. God's love is known as Agape love.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for often using a life experiences to reveal spiritual truths. May we realize how we treat others is vital to our Spiritual walk, for You didn’t suggestion we love in this way; You command it. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

About this Plan

Who Is Your Community?

After a recent serious illness, I discovered first-hand how God works through individual communities. This six-day devotional makes us realize that we might not think much about the importance of who our community is—that is until we need one. The church is the community of various denominations who serve outside their walls.
