God’s Will Shall Be Done!

Under Nehemiah’s leadership, the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt in 52 days. Can you imagine how pleased the Lord must have been with Nehemiah?

The completion of such a monumental task in such a short time was an incredible victory—one that left the enemies of Jerusalem stunned. Nehemiah 6:16 (NLT) says, "When our enemies and the surrounding nations heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized this work had been done with the help of our God." We learn that not even the most intense opposition can prevent the plan of God.

What Nehemiah's enemies intended to use to distract and discourage him—constant threats, lies, and attempts to discredit him—only strengthened his resolve. The completion of the wall was a testimony to God's faithfulness and power. Nehemiah’s determination and focus on God's calling to rebuild the wall resulted in not just the physical structure being restored, but also the morale of the people being renewed.

Yet, Nehemiah faced even more personal opposition. His enemies didn’t give up easily. In verses 17-19, we read that Sanballat and Tobiah continued to attempt to manipulate and sow discord by sending false reports and letters to undermine Nehemiah’s leadership. Despite these ongoing attempts to distract him, Nehemiah remained faithful to the work, committed to God’s call, and stayed on course.

What can we learn from this?

1. Stay Focused on Your God-Given Task: Nehemiah refused to be sidetracked by the distractions and threats of his enemies. He knew his purpose was clear, and he wasn’t about to let fear or false reports knock him off course. In our lives, distractions, criticism, and even personal attacks can often pull us away from the work God has set before us. But just like Nehemiah, we are called to stay focused and not be swayed by outside noise.
2. Trust in God’s Timing and Protection: Nehemiah didn’t rush the process or worry about opposition. He trusted that God would complete the work He had started. In our own lives, we often feel the pressure to finish quickly or to prove ourselves, but we must remember that God's timing is perfect. When we trust Him, the results will be undeniable.
3. Integrity in Leadership: Despite the lies and slander aimed at him, Nehemiah’s integrity remained intact. His leadership was rooted in truth and accountability. As leaders in our homes, workplaces, and communities, we must maintain integrity, trusting that God will protect and vindicate us, even when others speak against us.

Reflective Questions:

• Are there distractions or opposition in your life that are keeping you from completing the work God has called you to do?
• How can you remain focused on God's mission, even when faced with criticism or false accusations?
• What can you learn from Nehemiah’s response to his enemies when facing personal attacks or pressure?

Prayer:

Lord, please help me to stay focused on the work You have called me to, no matter the distractions or opposition. Strengthen me to trust in Your protection and timing. May my leadership reflect Your integrity and faithfulness. In Jesus' name, amen.

Never forget, that God’s will shall be done on earth as you allow Him to guide you in your role as His chosen leader!
