Sacred Moments With Christনমুনা
We are stepping into this really beautiful season when we remember Christ, the very center of our universe. During this time of reflection, I keep coming back to Luke 2.
It’s the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Both times in the chapter, we get this beautiful glimpse into her life. It’s intimate and personal. It almost feels like we shouldn’t know what we do about her in those moments, but it’s there for a reason, and that’s what I want to uncover with you today.
In Luke 2, we see two different stories but one singular idea:
Mary treasured and pondered.
What we’re going to see here and in the text is an element of mystery. Mary and Joseph already knew who Jesus was; his divinity was clear. But up until this point, it had been a small circle who knew the truth.
Now, they started seeing these confirmations of what they knew. And yet, it still caused wonder.
- How did the story from the shepherds fit into a bigger narrative? How far would the story go?
- What would this mean for their family if word spread?
- What would their son’s life look like?
You can hold space for faith and confidence in God’s Word but still live in the mystery and wonder that is inevitable in our walk. The question is, what do we do with that?
Mary, in verse 19, did two things:
- She treasured up what she was beholding,
- and she pondered them in her heart.
For today, set aside time to consider what this might mean and look like in your everyday life.

About this Plan
Twice in Luke 2, Mary is described as treasuring what she witnessed in Jesus's life. She pondered the sacred moments God brought her into. In this five-day reading plan, Brittany Rust explores those moments and how we might both treasure and ponder God's work and Person.
