A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday Devotionalsনমুনা
Have you heard the saying ‘love is like a seed’? Seeds are tiny promises written small of what they may one day grow into. An apple seed may grow up to be an apple tree and produce many more apples with many, many more seeds of their own.
Corn is said to grow in ‘ears.’ Each ear of corn contains thousands of kernels, the fruit of the corn. The other parts of the corn are husks, chaff, and stalk - meant for throwing away. But the ears contain the good stuff!
Maybe there is something to be inferred as Jesus and his disciples walked amongst the corn, picking some to eat as the religious elite looked on with disdain in Mark 2. When they questioned Jesus, he said to them, 'The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.’ (Mark 2:27-28 NIV)
Could they hear? Could they turn their ears to listen? Could they see?
Jesus was love incarnate, walking amongst us as the Eternal Word made Flesh, yet many could not conceive this truth before their eyes and ears.
Let us listen, look, and love today.
Prayer: Jesus, help me to hear you so that my eyes, ears, and spirit will truly be alive and turned toward you.
Action: Spend some time drawing a corn plant (you can look online, too!). What does this corn drawing or illustration speak to you of the God who speaks and asks us to open our ears to hear toward God?
