A Year of Prayer: Season One Weekday Devotionals

DAY 53 OF 75

How many countless songs have been written about love? What’s your favourite love song? If you sat for a moment, the lyrics or hook of a sweeping ballad or tender whisper would no doubt quickly come rushing back, a personal reminder of something about it that you associate with love.

Perhaps it reminds you of a place, a person, a particular day, or even a certain time of day.

As we ruminate on the words in the scripture of ‘faithful love,’ a powerful emotion emerges. We know love is not only emotion. Emotion is feelings or thoughts that evoke sentiment or deep reactions in our bodies and minds. But love is action, intention, and commitment that moves from our minds through our bodies and out into our lives. Love changes everything.

The scripture above records God saying, ‘my everlasting covenant’. This is love incarnate - a promised proposal that is embedded in purpose. We read, ‘Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness! I say: The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will put my hope in Him.' (Lamentations 3:22-24 HCSB)

God’s faithful love renews and restores, caresses and comforts, promises and delivers, and is historic and prophetic. It reaches into the past, embraces us in the present, and leans forward into the future.

Love never fails.

Prayer: God, you are Love. You are deep truth and faultless connection. Help me to see you and love you, and my love to bear fruit as redemptive mercy to the world.

Action: Look outside at the trees and nature today. Take a leaf in your hand and examine it. Pray for God to speak through this leaf and nature and tell you something healing.
