All Who Are Weary: God Is My Deliverer

DAY 4 OF 8

I Am the LORD’S

But now, this is what the LORD says—He who created you, Jacob, He who formed you, Israel: “

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers,

they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;

the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior.”

-Isaiah 43:1-3a

The Promise: I Am the LORD’s and the Waters Won’t Take Me Under.

God tells us that we will go through hard things. When you pass through the waters… not "if." It’s a guarantee, but He goes ahead and gives us a greater guarantee: the waters will not overtake you. When you walk through the fire, the flames will not scorch your skin. You are wrapped in the protection and care of the God who created you. He has redeemed you; He has called you by your name, and He says you are His. This is the God who goes with you in deep waters—the one who also brings you through.

Try This: Do the Dishes

Go old school on this: fill up your sink, let hot water cascade in the basin, and suds cover the surface. Dip your dishes under the water, scrub, and watch the cups, plates, and cutlery clean and shine. Notice the way the water feels on your hands—the temperature, the moisture. Lay the clean dishes on a towel on your counter. Sometimes, getting things clean cleans up the grime in us.
