Selecting the Right Leaders: Part II

Many companies may be looking for new talent. God told Moses in Deuteronomy 1:13 to select wise, discerning and experienced leaders.

As we unpack three attributes, let’s focus first on wisdom. The Hebrew word translated as “wise” has several synonyms describing this word. For instance, a wise person is defined as being intelligent, skillful or cunning.

A leader works with many different people. Sometimes these people can be deceptive and manipulative. A gullible person can lose your business money and be easily deceived. A wise or cunning person will usually see through the deception.

Proverbs 1:5 teaches, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning.”

Wisdom is derived from learning and experience as the Proverb above explains. However, acquiring knowledge should never stop. No one can absorb all the world’s wisdom and become perfectly wise. Wisdom is an ongoing process and the wise understand and practice this.

Sometimes the wisest one is not the person explaining but the one asking. The wise were first and continue to be good students. As you select new talent, pursue leaders who have a reputation of being wise and invested in learning and growing.

• What is the difference between wisdom and knowledge? Can you have one without the other? What are good sources of wisdom?
