Is your mood in the basement today?
Tell me, do you want to be happy?
That's a good question, isn't it? After all, we don't necessarily choose to be sad. Most of the time it has to do with something that happens to us. It doesn't always have to be the biggest blow of fate. Often a letter from the tax office or a parking ticket is enough, and suddenly our mood is in the basement.
An exciting statement actually: "My mood is in the basement today."
Have you ever wondered why people say that? Well, the basement is where I put the things I don't want sitting around in my living space. However, there comes a time when I will need them and then I have to go to the basement to bring them back up. I don't feel like it most of the time, but I do it because I need what's down there.
If your mood is in the basement, you too may have to go down the steps you don't feel like going down to retrieve it.
When Habakkuk cried out to God for help, God didn't respond with, "Ta Da! Here comes your answer!" haha. No, God said, “Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” (Habakkuk 1:5 NIV)
However, nothing amazing was currently happening "among the nations," so why did God want Habakkuk to look there? For two reasons:
Because even where you think there is currently only bad, still good is to be found!
And secondly, because what looks so bad today is for God the optimal ground for a miracle, for which you will praise Him soon!
So if your mood is in the basement today, remind yourself to get it out of there by looking at your situation with open eyes. Yes, also notice what is "going well" right now and believe that God will bring a miracle out of your current wound!
You are a miracle!

About this Plan
This week we want to deal with the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk. Not that much is known about him, but one thing is certain: He was faithful in the waiting times. Are you in a time of waiting? Perhaps you too need some encouragement from Habbakuk!
