Beautiful in God’s Eyes: Who YOU Are in Himনমুনা
You Are Beautiful
As a child in the Philippines, Kiwi experienced firsthand the pain of poverty. At night, she would lie in bed, her belly twisting and growling from hunger. The only other sound was her voice, pleading with God to keep her family together and safe.
You probably wouldn’t use the word “beautiful” to describe that story. Instead, you might say it’s hopeless. You can imagine how, as a child, Kiwi felt the same about the circumstances that surrounded her.
All of us tend to see ourselves in light of our circumstances. If a friend betrays us, we may see ourselves as unwanted. If we make a mistake, we may see ourselves as unworthy. And if we suffer heartbreak, we may see ourselves as unloved.
But God sees you differently.
While Kiwi’s story may have looked hopeless, it wasn’t. As a sponsored child in the Compassion program, Kiwi received a letter from her sponsor (the individual generously giving to her each month) that changed everything. Inside that letter were six little but powerful words:
“You are beautiful in God’s eyes.”
Kiwi learned that her identity wasn’t tied to her circumstances. Instead, her true identity was found in him. While her life may have looked hopeless, God saw beauty in her and her future. He cared so much for her!
By hearing this truth, she found the confidence she needed to look past her poverty and run after the bright and beautiful future he promised her. You are beautiful in God’s eyes too!
In Psalm 139:14 (NIV), we read that we’re fearfully and wonderfully made. God made us intricately and uniquely. He also made us carefully, with purpose, and ordained our days before we were ever born (Psalm 139:16, NIV).
Think about it this way: An artist will spend time carefully selecting a subject, paint colors, and the perfect canvas. He will then make one tiny brushstroke after another until the piece is complete. What's the end result? Beauty in the eyes of the artist, who’s proud of his masterpiece.
You are one of God’s beautiful masterpieces. And no matter what your circumstances may tell you, he cares greatly for you. Just like Kiwi, he has a beautiful future in store for you.
