Introducing John

DAY 1 OF 7

Introduction to John

Apostle John, often referred to as the ‘beloved disciple,’ holds a unique and revered place in Christian history. Born in the fishing village of Bethsaida, John’s journey with Jesus began with a simple call beside the Sea of Galilee. His willingness to abandon his nets and follow Christ marked the inception of a profound relationship. John became part of Jesus’ inner circle, witnessing miracles, the transfiguration, and the agony of Gethsemane.

His closeness to Christ was evident during the Last Supper where He reclined on Jesus’ chest, epitomising a bond of intimacy and trust. This relationship extended to the foot of the cross where Jesus entrusted the care of His mother, Mary, to John.

Following Christ’s resurrection, John became a pillar of the early Christian church. He authored five New Testament books – the Gospel of John, three epistles (1st, 2nd, and 3rd John), and the book of Revelation. All his writings bear witness to a deep understanding of the nature of God’s love and the significance of faith in Christ. John’s legacy extends beyond his literary contributions. His life exemplified unwavering loyalty, deep spiritual insight, and an abiding love for Christ. Tradition holds that he lived to an old age, leaving an indelible mark on the early Christian community. The ‘disciple whom Jesus loved’ remains an enduring symbol of intimate discipleship and profound revelation in the tapestry of Christian history.
