ONE THINGনমুনা
As we continue to chase after the ONE THING, we are looking at the things that help to keep us on a single focus.
The next component we find in Psalm 27:4 is the word DWELL.
That we would dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of our lives.
To stay in His presence is a valuable tool, but all too often do we allow time for just remaining in Him?
The word dwell has a few unique meanings. The first is literally to sit down. It means stopping what you are doing, all the activity, and sitting down to quiet yourself.
It also carries the meaning of not only pausing and stopping, but remaining. I love the story of Joshua in Exodus 33:11, when the Lord used to speak with Moses in the tent, and even after Moses had left to return to camp, Joshua would not depart from the tent. He remained.
Dwell also means to wait, rest, and even settle down, making a place your home. Psalm 27:4 says 'that I may dwell in the house of the Lord...'
King David’s desire was to make the house of the Lord his home.
What’s our desire? Is it to abide with Christ?
As believers, we still have choices to make regarding the priority of our lives. But the truth remains: the more we make God, His House, and His Word a priority, the less opportunity there is for evil and sin to take hold.
Charles Spurgeon says, 'We know of no cure for the love of evil in a Christian like abundant interaction with the Lord Jesus. Dwell much with him, and it is impossible for you to be at peace with sin.'
Start today to make your time with Him a priority so that you might dwell in his presence.
About this Plan
We are going to find what it means to live for Jesus in a distracted world. This world is running at a hundred miles per hour, and we have more information in our hands than we can handle. Is that the nature of this modern world? How do we slow down in such a fast-paced environment? Psalm 27:4 has the answer – ONE THING, with Ps Andrew Cartledge.
