Immeasurable Loveনমুনা
Because He First Loved Me
I was once asked the question, "Why do you love God?" and my immediate answer was "Because he first loved me." When I sinned, he still loved me. Fell short, his love was still present and when I was lost, his love found me. When God created you and me in his image, it wasn't just to display his power, but an act of his love for us. In 1 John 4:8, it says that God is love and if we take a deeper look at how the Bible describes love, love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Which is the essence of God.
In the gospel of Luke, the parable of the lost sheep illustrates the love and compassion of God. The parable talks about a Shepard leaving a flock of nighty-nine sheep to go searching for that one sheep that wandered off and went astray because of the love and care the Shepard had for that one sheep. The Shepard took a risk by leaving the nighty-nine behind to find that one. Why would that Shepard take such a huge risk leaving the nighty-nine for that one? This parable demonstrates the heart of God and how his love for us is so deep that he will go to great lengths to bring us back to Him when we fall astray.
