Day 1: Connect to the Source:
Welcome to the You Were Made to Flourish Plan! Over the next ten days, I hope to empower you with ten principles from God’s Word that you can use to flourish in whatever season of life you may find yourself in.
Today we are talking about step #1, the most important step: connecting to the source (John 14:6).
In John 15:1-8, we read that God wants us to be fruitful. That’s why He gave us Jesus! But we won’t flourish just from the opportunity to connect to Him. We have to actually do it! When we connect to the Vine, we gain what we need to flourish in every area of our lives, in every season of our lives.
It’s important to realize that this fruit is not just referring to religious activities; it’s referring to us actually becoming more like Jesus. The more we connect to Him and spend time with Him, the more like Him we become. And the more like Him we become, the more we invite blessing into our lives. Galatians 5:22 tells us that as we remain connected to Jesus, we naturally reap the fruit of His Spirit in our lives—fruit like love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This fruit speaks loudly of God’s goodness and faithfulness to those around us, bringing honor and glory to Him.
Before we can move on to day 2, you need to ask yourself: Who is my source? Where do I get your fulfillment? Is it from a person? A spouse, friend, or family member? Is it from a job, position, or title? Is it from your bank account, status, or social media following? These things are not wrong in themselves, but to continually flourish, there can only be one answer to this question: Jesus. He alone must be our Source. He must be our very best friend.
Identify a part of your life that is currently flourishing. How can you shine the light of what God has given you to others? If you can’t think of an area that is flourishing, think of one you believe will flourish. What will you share when it does?
