Purify Your Mind Series (Part 1) by Joe Kirbyনমুনা
Fight With a Sword
Many Christians want to break free from the chains of lust, but neglect their time alone studying the Word of God. When we do that, we put down our sword and try to fight the powers of darkness with a feather. Is it any wonder we are helpless against temptation?
I believe if we knew how powerful the Word of God really was, we would never miss a quiet time. Your daily devotions are like an investment; in the early days you see little profit and it can be very costly. But if you keep investing, eventually, you’re going to get a big payday! This can be applied with the Word of God. Every time you read it, you plant seeds into the soil of your heart, and those seeds will keep growing until, eventually, you will see fruit in your life, and even the people around you will start to see fruit in your life. So many times the Holy Spirit has brought to my mind an obscure verse that I didn’t even know I knew! But because it was hidden in my heart, God was able to use it as a secret weapon to keep me from sin. God has given us incredible memories. We can recite songs, phone numbers, and whole movies. But make sure you make the effort to memorize Scripture, too, because knowing the lyrics to “Sweet Caroline” won’t save you in the battle, but knowing Proverbs 5 will.
