DAY 7—The Impact of Grace Beyond Your Marriage
In Joshua chapters 3 and 4, the Israelites are instructed by God to cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Each and every Israelite crossed that riverbed on dry ground as the Lord held back the waters, then Joshua charged one man from each of the twelve tribes to go back to the middle of the river before the waters returned and carry out a stone.
Each of the twelve stones were then used to construct an altar to the Lord before they entered the Promised Land. Joshua stood by the altar and proclaimed to the Israelites that this altar would serve as a sign to future generations. The stones would be a reason to share the stories of what God had done for them, that all the people of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is powerful and God is faithful to His people.
What if your marriage served as a constant reminder for your children, your neighbors, your friends, and your co-workers of the power of God and His faithfulness? What if, when others looked at your marriage, they saw a living picture of the gospel in how you show grace and sacrificial love to your spouse?
Your marriage can be a testimony to the life-changing power of God. His grace can completely revolutionize your relationship and infuse it with new vibrancy and closeness. But the impact of God’s grace beyond your marriage can be incredibly far-reaching.
May we all seek that our marriages be a testament to God’s glorious grace, an altar of remembrance of His faithfulness that shapes those around us and the generations to come.
