Just Don't Give Up! - Part 1: I Amনমুনা
A Mustard Seed
“He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20
It was my third day in the hospital, and my gaze rested on the clock, watching it tick away. My biopsy was scheduled for 11 am, so that the doctor could conduct further diagnosis. I had complete faith that God's miracle would take place. "God, it's Your time to show Your power. Let the world know who You are. No more tumor," I whispered in my heart, full of spirit.
With much hope, I went into the operating room, and the doctor turned on the scanner. Silence filled the room. After a few minutes, I asked the doctor if he could find the tumor. He replied, "Yes. The tumor is still there."
When we pray for a miracle and it does not happen immediately, we tend to think that we did not have enough faith. We start doubting our spiritual condition and are reminded of the times we strayed away from God, our past mistakes, and other past sins. These thoughts make us an easy target for the enemy to further dampen our spirit. Thus, we need to understand how to stand firm in our faith during such situations.
The amount of faith required according to the Bible can be found in Matthew 17:20. Jesus taught us that faith the size of a mustard seed is enough. Of all types of seed, Jesus used this seed to measure faith, as it was the smallest seed known at that time. At the same time, Jesus also spoke to his disciples about their little faith. So, does that mean that the disciples' faith was smaller than a mustard seed? Meanwhile, we know that no other seeds were smaller.
When I first taught my daughter to swim, she was terrified of the water. She didn't have the confidence to try and couldn't trust herself. So I stood up in the pool and held her tight. I told her to trust me, and I promised her that I would never let her drown. She struggled and cried, but finally, she was able to swim.
From that experience, I understood that faith works the same way. God will never leave us, just like how I would never leave my daughter to drown, even if she had doubts in her heart. I would make sure she was completely safe, no matter what.
My friend, if God has not answered your prayers, it is not because you do not have enough faith. Remember that it is not about the size of your faith, but about knowing that you are His beloved child and whom you place your trust in. So, stop wondering if you have enough faith to receive your miracle, stop comparing the size of your faith with others, and start proclaiming the power of God in your life as you walk through the valleys.
And I pray that your faith will increase during these times, similar to a mustard seed that grows into a big and strong tree in its season. For your Father, with His unfathomable power, has a bigger plan for you. He will answer your prayers in His perfect timing. So cheer up and never lose hope, for with God, nothing is impossible!
