God's Gift to Families - Moms: Devotions From Time Of Graceনমুনা
Give Mom the praise she deserves
I can readily understand why some women don’t like reading Proverbs chapter 31. In some ways it describes an intimidating perfect wife and mother--Superwoman. A merely mortal woman will read that chapter and instead of being inspired she will get depressed.
Proverbs chapter 31 is not intended to crush women with massive expectations and pressures. I suspect that God put that chapter there primarily to awaken appreciation in the eyes of their husbands and children. So much of what women do for their families is semi-invisible, humble, and non-remunerated. As a result, it isn’t seen, respected, or appreciated enough.
All you who are husbands or someone’s child, pause for a moment right now and ponder the great value that your mother has brought into your life. Take a little stroll through Proverbs chapter 31 and recall all the ways in which your mom did those things for you. Give thanks to God for her. You might thank her too: “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate” (Proverbs 31:30,31).
Do you suppose it was your mother who more than anyone else is responsible for your being a believer? Just think--she gave you your first earthly home, and she helped you find the Savior who gives you your heavenly home.
