God's Gift to Families - Moms: Devotions From Time Of Graceনমুনা
Mom makes a house a home
How life for women has changed!
My maternal grandmother never cut or colored her hair, never owned a pair of slacks, never was educated past seventh grade, and never operated a motor vehicle. My daughter and nieces are college educated and have traveled and lived internationally. And yet, in spite of all this social change, some eternal life rhythms will endure. It is still Mom who makes a house a home.
Mothers are God’s special gift to family life. Women in general are wired for relationships, and her home is where little ones are nourished and raised and where family and friends gather. Men do some of the cooking and a lot more of the housework than they used to, but rarely have I been in a kitchen that didn’t ultimately belong to the woman. Proverbs 31:15 celebrates the wonderful work that wonderful women do: “She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family.” But it’s more than just the food--it’s the love and care that keeps the rest of us coming back.
Moms invest extra energy into special life moments like birthdays and anniversaries. They make sure that everyone feels important, their special days remembered. They are the card senders and gift givers. They are the cake bakers and present wrappers. They take time to decorate, put out nice tablecloths, cut some flowers, and have a centerpiece that fits the season.
Mom, remember when you thought nobody noticed or appreciated all you do? We did, and we do.
