Baesics: The Devotional

DAY 3 OF 7

"Major Keys"

When I was growing up, I found it difficult to understand how God could be for me. I found it challenging to grasp how God doesn’t want me to fail, but wants me to succeed in life. God wants us to live a life in which our relationships flourish and a life in which we grow in our love for Christ and for one another. Today we will look at some Biblical keys to success when it comes to relationships.

Key number 1 - Keep God as number one. Don’t elevate your partner to being the number one person in your life; they are not God and they can’t be the one you build your life on. Psalm 37:4 says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” It doesn’t say that we should take delight in other people, only the Lord, because it is only God who can fulfil us and give us the desires of our heart.

Key number 2 – Rely on your squad. Surround yourself with good Christian friends. Make sure your squad is healthy, and that they are those who believe in you and your God-given potential. Proverbs 13:20 says “Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.” It’s also good to have someone in your life who is further ahead in the journey, whether that is a youth leader or an older friend. Meet up with them regularly and get their advice on where you’re at in your relationship.

Key number 3 - Set boundaries. We all know that one of the biggest struggles in a relationship is temptation; so, it’s best to set boundaries from the start. Ephesians 5:2-3 says “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.” We’ll speak more about this tomorrow!

The world tells us the lie that real happiness is found in doing what you want, when you want. But today our Scripture tells us that this is far from the truth; the truth is that it is only by trusting in God that we will live a successful life. It is only by following Jesus that we will be truly content and live fulfilled lives.
