Baesics: The Devotionalনমুনা
"Baesics"
When I studied at university I walked the same route to my campus for a whole year. Every day I crossed over the river to get to my classes, and every day I walked past a building site for a new development of apartments. It always surprised me how I could always see workers on the construction site, but no sign of the houses that were meant to be being built. I would walk past day by day, week by week, month by month, and I could never see any change; the building site would always look exactly the same!
One day the apartments started to appear and then, within a couple of weeks, they were towering over me on my way to university. By the end of that year the entire building was almost finished, and it looked so much taller than I would have thought a few weeks previously. What I realised was that it was during those months where I couldn’t see any progress that the construction workers were building the foundations. The foundations took a long time to build, but by making sure the foundations were correct, it meant that the building became strong, safe, and secure.
Just as buildings need good foundations to be secure, we too need to have good foundations for our lives to be healthy and strong. Today’s Scripture says that we can choose what to build our lives on; we can build our lives on the foundations of the world, which will give way when we encounter any opposition or trouble. Or we can build our lives on Jesus, who is the rock that will keep us safe regardless of the storms that we face.
In this devotional series, we will be looking at relationships for the next seven days. ‘Bae’ means ‘before anyone else,’ and so ultimately we have to recognise that God is our ultimate ‘before anyone else’; he comes before anyone else, and is the foundation that we build our lives on. If we try and build our lives on anyone else, we will find that they will at some point let us down. Remember, God says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, you are his child and that you have eternal value and worth. Let’s not let our value be based on what the world says about us, but rather what God’s word says about us.
