Homeschool Moms Teach the Psalms (Psalm 15-21)নমুনা
Day 2
Psalm 16
This Psalm has encouraged my life and my homeschool greatly. It has given me hope, direction, and purpose—which is exactly what David needed when he penned these words.
David is crying out to the LORD as his only hope and the only One who can preserve him. He says in honesty, as I say, “My goodness is nothing apart from You.” He also exhorts saints to stay true to God. He encourages himself in his difficulties stating boldly these ten things about Who His God is.
His God:
1. Preserves him
2. Is his portion, inheritance, and cup
3. Maintains his lot
4. Sets his boundary lines in pleasant places
5. Gives him a good heritage
6. Gives him counsel
7. Is at his right hand
8. Shows him the path of life
9. Provides joy in His presence
10. Has eternal pleasures stored up for him
David put his faith in the God of Heaven, knowing that this God touched the earth where he lived. Most likely on the run at this time, he declares that the lot God has given him is pleasant. Why? Because God Himself is his portion, his inheritance, and his cup. The cup that refreshes and gives sustenance, and the Giver never far away. He states that Adonai (Lord or Master) Who was his life preserver, heritage maker, counselor, joy provider, was very near—at his right hand. Though his promise of kingship was yet unfulfilled, he found his life purpose in God's presence and nothing on earth could ever measure up to that.
The key to living this kind of content, unshaken life is in verse 8: “I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.” The key is the conscious act of “setting” the Lord in front of me, realizing His closeness, acknowledging that all He has given is good, and that the future holds great hope in Him.
To Do With The Kids:
Read Psalm 16, Acts 2:25-28, and Acts 13:35. Who were these verses applied to in these settings? Like the Psalmist, children create their own list of ten things God is and God does. Listen to Handel’s Messiah, where Psalm 16:10 is highlighted in Part 32, Air “Thou shalt not leave my soul in hell: neither shalt thou suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ba-XN_wGwjk)
