Stand With Godনমুনা
Stand with God by Standing in Faith
When circumstances get overwhelming and our struggles seem never-ending, it is the desire of every believer to receive some type of confirmation from God that He knows and has a plan. We may not expect a burning bush (Moses) or anticipate a dewy fleece (Gideon), but we certainly pray to hear from God somehow and some way. (Read Ephesians 6:10-18)
This is Grace’s desire at this point in the story. So far, she has been misrepresented in the courtroom and misunderstood by those who oppose her and seek to bring her down. She needs to hear from God and sense His presence; only then will she experience the peace that passes understanding (at least that’s what she thinks). But God does not answer her that way. Instead, He is silent. And silence is a difficult thing because silence makes us feel like we are alone. Yet even silence has a profound purpose. (Read Psalm 46:10)
It is against human nature to be still. We feel like we need to do something, to help God answer us in a certain way. Yet when we are still, we are able to reflect on His character, His power and His greatness. When viewed rightly, silence and stillness leads us to acknowledge the sovereignty of God in our lives, helping us to stand and not surrender.
In our scripture reading today, we see that we can stand in His might and power, a power that overcomes our human weaknesses. When we stand, we do not retreat. When we stand, we do not give up any ground because we stand equipped with the weapon of faith, which is a powerful thing, sure to defeat the enemy of our souls.
I do not know what you are facing that requires you to stand for God. Maybe you have been standing in faith for a long time, and you are beginning to feel weary. If so, let the story of Grace encourage you today; though God might not appear in the situation the way you expect, He will give you encouragement that He is with you.
For Grace, it meant sending a group of faith-filled students to her door, uplifting her and reminding her that she is not alone.
For you, it might be a phone call, an offer for prayer, or another unexpected blessing. Simply open your eyes to see that the goodness of God is the touch of God upon your life, giving you the encouragement to stand in faith and power. (Read Isaiah 40:28-29)
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, as we finish this devotional series, we are grateful for the reminder to embrace the seasons of stillness and silence, which draws us closer to You. We recognize Your sovereignty in all the daily struggles we experience, and thank You for giving us power and strength to stand in adversity. Help us to see Your goodness in the unexpected blessings, and help us to recognize when we are to be Your heart, hands, and feet for the encouragement and edification of others, especially for those who call upon You.
In Jesus name, amen.
