Stand with God by Sharing Jesus
Though we haven’t always gotten it right, it is no secret that Christians have been on the forefront of various social justice movements. From combating slavery to fighting human trafficking, believers feel the call to be a voice for the voiceless, and to seek justice where there is injustice. (Read Matthew 25:31-40)
The reason why this is such an integral part of the Christian life is because we cannot separate our belief from our practice. Jesus calls us to live our faith by serving others, which requires self-sacrificial action on our part. And in a self-promoting, self-obsessed, “selfie” society, living a life of self-sacrifice is not in step with the culture around us.
Yet God calls us to live differently. He calls us to bring His Kingdom to the earth. Made in the image and likeness of God the Creator, it is every person’s right to live with dignity. And to hear the truth of the Gospel. (Read Psalm 89:14)
In our clip, Brooke approaches Grace with the burden on her heart. Since Grace has lived a life of authentic faith, Brooke knows that something is different about her. This observation opens the door to Grace sharing the truth of Jesus Christ’s transformative power.
As Christians today, we still participate in the greatest movement of all, which is bringing Jesus to the brokenhearted so that they will find healing, peace and purpose. It’s one thing for us to demonstrate His love through acts of mercy; it is another thing altogether to proclaim His Name.
As we all know, this is no easy thing. There are those who see we stand for Christ and who don’t want to hear about it, resulting in varying levels of hostility. However, this cannot silence us. In the midst of a crowd that is unbelieving, there might be a Brooke. And you or I might just be the one who brings her a step closer to God’s eternal Kingdom.
The next time you are in a situation like Grace, and you feel the tugging on your heart to share the name of Jesus, remember this:
It is everyone’s right to know about Jesus.
And it is your divine right to tell them. (Read Matthew 28:18-20)
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, I pray each one of us is inspired by the devotion today and looks for opportunity to share Jesus with others. Not only are we people who seek mercy, truth and justice, we are also believers who share Your heart for the lost of this world. I pray for wisdom as we encounter an increasingly hostile culture, and for boldness to speak Your truth. Thank You for the promise of Your abiding presence. May it strengthen us in the days ahead.
In Jesus name, amen.
