90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for Women

DAY 57 OF 90

(contribution written by Jennifer Miller)

I'm sure you've heard the term "the grass is always greener on the other side?" When I hear that statement, I think of myself standing in my yard looking over at my neighbor's yard wondering why theirs looks so much better than mine. Since we're talking about responsibility, I'd like to use the analogy of a yard to have us think a little bit about our own "yards."

I'd like you to think of yourself for a moment standing in your own yard. Let's say your yard represents everything about yourself - who you are as a person, your personality, your belief system, your past that includes the relationships you've had, the bad things that's happened to you, and the hurts you may have experienced. Everything that you own is in your yard.

Somewhere in our journey of life, we experience trauma and circumstances that makes our yard not a very nice place to stay in. So we decide to jump the fence. What does jumping the fence look like? It can be many things, most of which keeps us out of our yard so we don't have to face how messy it really is.

Our addiction is a perfect example. Over the next couple days, we're going to talk about what's keeping you out of your own yard and how God is waiting for you to come back.

Have you been able to identify what has caused you to jump the fence? What's residing in your yard that has been too much to deal with that sent you running?
