Through the Bible: Genesis

DAY 3 OF 15

God’s Redemptive Plan

The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Jovan, Tubal, Meschech and Tiras.
Genesis 10:2
The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan.
Genesis 10:6
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
Genesis 10:22

There were eight people in the ark (Gen 7:7), among whom were Noah’s three sons through whom the earth was populated after the flood (Gen 9:19, 10:1). Genesis 10 is often called the “table of nations” as no other document from antiquity comes close to explaining the origins of modern nations and cultures.

Genesis 10 and much of Genesis 11 are devoted to genealogies. Why are genealogies included in Scripture? It is to help us understand where the promise of God lands in each generation.

In the Book of Genesis, the purpose of genealogies is to trace the seed line – the line from Adam to Noah is 10 generations (Gen 5:3-32) and the line from Shem to Abram is 10 generations (Gen 11:10-36). Then Matthew and Luke gave us precise genealogies to trace the birth of Jesus back to Abraham and Adam (Matt 1:1-11, Luke 3:23-31). These genealogies proved that Jesus was qualified to lay claim to being the Promised Seed coming from Abraham.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You are from everlasting to everlasting. You moved in deliberate and purposeful ways all the time remaining in control as You worked through generations over thousands of years to bring about Your redemptive plan for man’s sin through Jesus. We thank You, Almighty God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Genesis

Everyone has an origin. It explains why we are here, and who we really are. But what about the origin of mankind? The answer lies in the book of Genesis, which means “in the beginning”. The book will help us understand the beginning of creation, the fall of mankind and unfolds God’s redemptive plan for humanity. Please join us as we journey Through The Bible starting with Genesis.
