Fierce Faith: Fighting Fear & Overcoming Anxietyনমুনা
You Are Not on Your Own
God has answered many of my prayers with “no” or “not yet.” Each of those times I have been tempted to believe that God’s "no" was because he wasn’t trustworthy and his “not yet” was because he was too preoccupied to help me. Over time, I had built up quite a case against God as being worthy of my trust. (How’s that for a true confession?)
The enemy wants us to believe the lie that we can’t trust God, and he uses our past hurts and disappointments to cloud our view of God and convince us that we can’t rely on him. He is going to try to get us to see God in the way that will wound us the most.
He wants us to blame God for anything that goes wrong in our lives.
He wants us to bury and deny we ever have an issue trusting God.
He wants us to stay busy and not think about God.
He wants us to binge on the opinions of others, on food, on TV, and on the internet instead of binging on the Word or time with God.
He wants us to brood fearfully over every important situation.
By sowing these seeds of mistrust, he attacks our peace and happiness from every angle and steals the security and acceptance we enjoy in Christ. He does anything and everything he can to keep us from trusting in God.
Our job is to be aware of the enemy’s tactics and see them for what they really are: lies. Then we need to battle against the lies with truth. The truth is that we know God is trustworthy, present with us, and deeply loving towards us.
Why can we trust God? The proof of God’s goodness and his intentions for our good fill the pages of scripture. It is because we know him that we know we can trust him.
God lavishes us with love. (1 John 3:1)
God is all-knowing. (1 John 3:20)
God is loving and wants only good for us. (Psalm 86:15)
God works things out for our good. (Romans 8:28)
God is with us. (Deuteronomy 31:6)
God is our helper. (Isaiah 41:10)
God has a plan for your life. (Jeremiah 29:11)
And no one can thwart his plans. (Isaiah 14:27
Trusting God is a process. As we get to know him, to know who he is, his heart, and his nature, we find that he is wholly trustworthy. We build a history with God that is strong enough to stand against every scheme and plot of the enemy. Then when the storms of life come we are securely anchored in truth.
God is a good Father who goes before you, stands behind you, and walks beside you. We serve a good God who loves us and is worthy of our trust.
Prayer:
Lord, expose the lies the enemy has been speaking to me about you. Help me to see you rightly as trustworthy and good. When I begin to doubt, remind me that you are with me. I trust that you are good at being the Lord of my life through the highs and lows. Amen.
Action Step:
Pick one of these truth declarations to speak over your life today:
I choose to believe your promises are true.
I choose to be comforted by your presence.
I can’t control the future, but I can choose to trust you.
