Our God Reignsনমুনা
Hope has the ability to ease our tensions about politics and laws in any situation. In every Biblical story, we meet people full of hope that God would deliver them (Jeremiah 29:11). Hope is really a feeling of trust.
As we conclude these five days of learning to rely on Jesus, regardless of presidents, rulers, or governments, we can take hope as a blanket to wrap everything up in. Merriam-Webster defines hope as:
1. To desire with expectation of obtainment or fulfillment
2. To expect with confidence
Our hope is certain. Jesus has already conquered sin and death. Our hope is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). He has paid the wages for us, granting us a relationship with the Father through Him, and access to the power of the Holy Spirit.
Hope can carry us through the hardest of times. Hope that Jesus works all things for His good (Romans 8:28). Hope that Jesus will return and bring us to our eternal home (1 Thessalonians 1:10).
Hope in the future may be easy but hope in the present can be difficult. A story from Daniel 3 is one of the best demonstrations of hope. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had served their earthly ruler, Nebuchadnezzar, even though they were outside almost all of their cultural norms and values.
When the decision came to obey their earthly ruler or to obey God, the three young men decided to obey God even though they knew it could cost them their lives (Daniel 3:16-18). Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had hope that God would save them. But even deeper, they had hope in the promises of God for eternal life.
They preferred obedience to God over more time on earth. This is a supernatural hope, and it is attainable for everyone. When our hope is placed solely in Jesus, we can find joy in any situation, any government, and any president or king. Our hope is found in the King of kings, the Name above all names—our great God and Savior Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13).
