There's Hope For Todayনমুনা
Susannah took one hour each Thursday for “Jackie.” She had eighteen other children to care for and no modern conveniences to help, but she held one hour every Thursday for Jack.
Susannah was no ordinary woman. Should she have been born in our times, who knows what contribution this brilliant woman could make to the world. But as it was, she came in the wretched conditions of the seventeenth century. By her teen years, she knew Latin, Greek, and French. Her theological knowledge rivaled that of her preacher-husband. She could have written textbooks. She could have poured her life into academics, but she chose to pour her life into her children, and on Thursdays, she kept one hour aside for Jack.
In that hour she saw to his education, as well as his spiritual disciplines. In that hour, she taught what mattered most and cared for the emotional needs of her second son. We may have enjoyed the notes and sermons of Susannah today, were it not for a fire in 1709.
No lives were lost, but a life of writing had gone to flame. Susannah did, however, give the world a gift: One hour invested every Thursday in the son she called Jackie. Dad called him Jack. We know him as John – John Wesley.
