There's Hope For Today

DAY 193 OF 366

We live in a chaotic world. Our culture runs hard on a mix of adrenalin, affluence, power, and lust.

Our senses are under constant assault. Inventors hurry to create the next generation of entertainment technology to fill up our senses with virtual reality.

“Real” life just doesn’t move fast enough anymore. Advertising hits hard and fast – a story line and a sales pitch in thirty seconds. Yesterday’s marvel is today’s antique. Today’s breakthrough is tomorrow’s old news. Tomorrow’s big hit has ninety days to succeed. We’re living in the fast lane, building on the fault lines, and blurring all the boundaries that once defined our values. It’s easy to get lost in these uncharted waters. The stars won’t stand still and the compass is spinning. We can’t take in sail and we can’t find the anchor. The rudder won’t answer and the wind screams, “Run faster!” We pick up the pace as we race to disaster. Meditation? Contemplation? Deliberation? These are antiquated concepts from the black and white TV days.

Against the backdrop of this raging storm, Jesus walks the tempest to lead us to a safe and quiet place. Slow down – say no – enjoy a sunset – be quiet – unplug! Rest a while – you’ll run better tomorrow.
