Shine Your Light
Welcome to the first day of the Shiny Influence Bible Plan! You’re going to take a good look at Matthew 5:14-16, and you’ll learn what it has to do with being an influential person.
Take a listen to it in song form!
Do you know who said those words from Matthew 5—the words from the song you just listened to? Jesus!
And do you know who He was talking about when He said, “You are the light of the world”? He was referring to anyone who trusts and follows Him! Do you love Jesus, and does He lead your life? Then you’re meant to be a light to a dark and hurting world. You’re meant to shine like Jesus!
Over the next six days, you’ll learn about influence. You’ll learn that you have more influence than you may realize. You’ll learn that you can lead others. And you’ll even learn how being a good leader also means being a good follower to the people who are meant to lead you.
You’ll see! For now, spend today thinking about Matthew 5:14-16. Maybe you should play the song video again. Let those words about who Jesus wants you to be sink into your heart and mind.
Ask yourself: What does it mean to be a light to others?
Challenge yourself: Find a nice piece of paper and something to write with. Write out Matthew 5:14-16 in big letters. Consider using the NLT version of the Bible since it’s the same version used in today’s verse song video. Try to fill your whole page, top to bottom, with these verses. Then, go back and circle every word that has to do with light—like “light,” “shine,” “lamp” and so on. Get creative if you want, and decorate the verse with colored pencils, markers, glitter, or whatever you think looks good. Hang your finished work.
Pray: God, thank You for giving me the best example to follow: Your own life. Help me to live like You did so I can shine Your light and love into a dark and hurting world. Help me to understand what that means for the way I live my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
