Suddenly Unemployed – Take It to the Lord in Prayerনমুনা
Day 7: Trusting God Day by Day
“For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen”
As he prepared for the building of the temple, King David prayed, “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all” (1 Chronicles 29:11).
This is similar to what some manuscripts add to Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:13, at the end of the Lord’s Prayer: “For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.” With these words, the prayer has come full circle in glorifying God: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. . . . ” Thus, it is an invitation to begin again—in the midst of these difficult days, and all the more beyond this season of navigating job loss.
May the words of the Lord’s Prayer go from being “routine” or “rote” to alive in you now that Jesus has taught you to pray it afresh as a model prayer. He alone enables all who come to Him to approach His Father’s throne boldly to receive grace and mercy when in need (Hebrews 4:16).
May the Lord’s Prayer move from being rote to relevant and open wide the door to an ever-deepening relationship with God—be it in times of peace or in times of tumult.
Prayer Prompts:
- In the same spirit as one of the psalmists, express glory and honor to your great God!
- Prayerfully consider praying through this plan once again or several times as God is getting you back on your feet again . . . and sharing it with a friend in need.
- Ask God to help you regularly pray the Lord’s Prayer as a pattern prayer, whether you're in a period of unemployment or back on your feet again!.

About this Plan
Job loss is stressful and scary. You question your security and significance. “How will I pay the bills, get health care, find a new job? Do I still have what it takes? Where is God in all this?” Be encouraged. He still has “good works” for you to do (Ephesians 2:10). Let Jesus guide you through the Lord’s Prayer on your way to getting back on your feet again!
