4 Keys to a Vibrant Prayer Life

DAY 1 OF 4

KEY #1 – PRAYER IS A TWO-WAY CONVERSATION

Do you long to be closer to God? The good news is that He longs to be closer to you! And one of the ways you can get closer to Him is to spend time with Him every day – keeping what I like to call your daily “appointment” with God.

Everyone’s daily time with God can look different, although there are several key elements that can make it a fulfilling time that strengthens your relationship. One of those elements is praise, another is reading the Bible, and another is prayer, which I want to talk about in this plan.

There are many different kinds of prayer. But in your daily devotional time of prayer, remember that prayer is first and foremost a two-way conversation—it’s talking and listening. Prayer is a privilege—it’s your powerful contact with the greatest force in the universe. What a blessing it is that our God gives us direct access to Him 24 hours a day. He invites us right into His throne room (Hebrews 4:16), and loves it when we come to Him in prayer.

Prayer time during your daily devotions is a good time to ask God for the things you need, but remember, you don’t want to do all the talking—you want to be sure you listen for (and expect to hear) His answers.

During my devotional time, I pray for a variety of things. There’s one prayer I pray every single day: “Father, today put me in the right place at the right time, with the right people doing the right thing. Make me a blessing.”

I’ll pray also for other people. I used to keep a long list of people I was praying for, but it got to be a burden. So now I just ask the Holy Spirit who needs prayer today, and let Him tell me. I actually do that all day long, and just pray for them right then.

This is also the time I’ll bring my own needs before God and ask for His wisdom about things going on with me. I make sure to cast every care on Him, trusting that He’s working on my behalf (1 Peter 5:7).
