Running From The Heart

DAY 7 OF 31

Joy

The joy of the Lord is your strength. (Nehemiah 8:10)

Like warming up before a race, Rebecca knew how critical it was to spend time with Jesus before the start of her day. The Lord was the source of her joy, even when her soul was downcast.

Through reading her Bible, worship and thanksgiving she encouraged her soul and found His joy.

Rebecca’s journals reflect the joy that flows from sweet fellowship

with Jesus Christ. “Joy is the fruit of being loved by God.
And, from being rooted in His gracious love, joy flows.

I’m here to show His glory in my life. Joy, peace and love take their place in my heart; I am thankful and eternally grateful for this, for I see Jesus himself is my JOY.”

Even in the midst of heartbreak, Rebecca experienced moments of joy that she knew to be a gift from God.

On a mother-daughter shopping outing, while Rebecca was picking out a gift for a friend, I found myself rather taken by a basket full of polished shiny stones. Each one had an inspiring word engraved into it. I asked Rebecca to choose a stone that could be my gift to her. Rebecca chose Joy!

It took my breath away because we had all been very tearful that morning, missing our Alex. I could not believe she would choose joy above everything else. Like many times before, I saw she was a willing, broken vessel. She allowed Jesus to pour His wisdom and grace gently through to me. Her beautiful eyes and smile said it all; she was encouraging me to choose joy as well.

Selah

You will fill me with joy in your presence. (Psalm 16:11)

Jesus Christ is the source of all joy. The joy that God gives is available in His presence, even in the midst of pain, sorrow and grief. In choosing joy you will glorify God by revealing the beauty of Jesus Christ in your life. Others will have a glimpse into your life and wonder, how do they live so joyfully and gracefully even in the face of great suffering? You can be a walking testament to the healing and restoring power of Jesus Christ.

Passing the Baton:

Choose Joy today.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of joy. Please help me to glorify Jesus by choosing joy no matter the circumstances. Amen.
