Heaven
Set your sights on the realities of Heaven... Think about the things of Heaven not the things of Earth. (Colossians 3:1-2, NLT)
The Bible teaches that Heaven is our true home, while our time on Earth is only temporary. When someone you love dies, you do begin to wonder about the things of Heaven. Rebecca had this very experience, when her brother Alex went home. Part of her heart went with him, and knowing this was not the end of the story, she chose to meditate on the Bible’s truth about Heaven. Rebecca wrote,
“I have family in Heaven and on Earth…”
“Live for the treasures of Heaven, don’t worry about uncertainties…"
An expression of her strong faith was when she would say to me, “I wonder what Alex is doing now?” In Heaven, all mysteries will be revealed, but until then, we agreed that Alex is enjoying the glory of God in his true home. He has joined the great cloud of witnesses and is worshiping Jesus in a perfect place; a place free of pain, perfect peace and joy and pleasures for evermore.
Rebecca loved to paint and, as a gift, she painted the beautiful bouquet of roses that her Dad bought me for our wedding anniversary. Written above one of the roses was Ecclesiastes 3:11.
“God has made everything beautiful in its time. He has planted eternity in the human heart.” This verse means more to me than words can say because, only a month later my heart was broken again when my precious Rebecca was also called home to Heaven!
I like to imagine that Alex was waiting to give her a welcome home hug, caught up in joy, worshiping God with family, friends and heroes of the faith. One day we will all be together again, with no one missing.

Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven... for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:20-21)
The Bible teaches that how we live our lives on Earth will be rewarded in Heaven. Relative to eternity, we have so few years to live out God’s unique calling for us and if we miss that, we miss everything. Run the rest of your life with perseverance, fixing your eyes on Jesus. The most important thing is that by welcoming Jesus into your heart, you know you’re going to Heaven.
What can you do differently today to start investing in Heaven?
Passing the Baton:
Store up treasure in Heaven by being faithful to His calling.
Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you that you will make all things beautiful in its time and that you have set eternity in my heart. You are the only one that can satisfy my soul and please help me to run the race you have marked out for me. Amen.
